Cronos Plans October 22 Mainnet Upgrade With Parallel EVM Changes
Cronos plans its v1.8 mainnet upgrade for October 22. Parallel execution and an optional app-side mempool feature; libp2p is not yet enabled on mainnet.
Cronos plans to upgrade its EVM mainnet to v1.8 on October 22, 2026, according to its October 14 announcement. The package targets transaction handling, parallel execution and developer compatibility. This is a scheduled deployment, not confirmation that the changes are already active. Follow verified protocol developments in OrangeX.com Projects.
What changes in transaction processing
The application-side mempool lets the application layer manage pending transactions instead of leaving that work entirely to the consensus layer. Cronos says this can reduce repeated verification and move post-block revalidation into the background. The feature is optional; existing node configurations can continue without enabling it.
Block-STM, the parallel EVM execution engine, is embedded in the Cosmos SDK layer. Non-conflicting transactions can execute together, while affected transactions are re-executed sequentially when conflicts appear. Actual results will depend on workload and deployment conditions.
Compatibility and rollout boundaries
The team reports support for more than 80 Ethereum API methods and API equivalence above 90%. These are project-reported compatibility measures, not a guarantee that every application will work unchanged. The package also includes framework updates and more than 40 bug fixes.
The announcement describes libp2p networking as experimental and explicitly says it is not yet enabled on mainnet. Its presence in release materials must not be confused with an active production feature. Operators should follow the official migration instructions and activation plan. Wider infrastructure coverage is available in OrangeX.com News.
Practical checks
Developers should test their own contract interactions and tooling. Users should verify service notices before moving assets and reject unsolicited requests for wallet secrets. Account and official-channel checks are covered by the OrangeX.com Trust Center.
OrangeX.com Analysis
The practical test is whether the upgraded execution path reduces bottlenecks while preserving correct state and reliable node operation. Optional features, experimental components and scheduled activation have different readiness levels. Confirmation of deployment and observable network behavior will matter more than headline compatibility percentages; neither the announcement nor the upgrade itself guarantees token-price gains.
